Before Activating

Once you’ve got your new iPhone 3G, you’ll need to connect to iTunes to activate it.

1. Check your voicemail
Before you activate your iPhone 3G, make sure you listen to your current voicemails. If you’re an existing O2 customer, activation will delete your existing voicemails. If you’re transferring an existing number from another network operator, existing voicemails will not be transferred.

2. Transfer your contacts, music and photos
Before you activate, migrate your existing mobile contacts onto Outlook, Outlook Express on the PC, or Address Book or Entourage on the Mac.

To activate your iPhone 3G
• Insert your current SIM card into your iPhone 3G using the SIM ejector tool found in your iPhone 3G box.
• Connect your iPhone 3G to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac or PC (not on the keyboard) using the cable included in the box. iTunes opens automatically.
• Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes to activate iPhone 3G and sync your contacts, calendars, music, photos, podcasts, videos, email accounts, and web bookmarks.

Don’t need 2 iPhones!

We want to make sure you find a good home for your old iPhone once you upgrade. If you’ve a friend, colleague or family member they can use it as a phone by choosing any of the three options below.

1. If they’re on an existing O2 18-month minimum term contract, they can just transfer onto a Pay Monthly tariff for iPhone*. The end date of their contract will stay the same. Once their tariff has been transferred, they just need to connect to iTunes to activate the iPhone.

2. If they’re an O2 business customers, they’ll need to move onto a current business tariff with an iPhone Bolt On and will be able to keep their existing contract term*. Once their tariff has been transferred, they just need to connect to iTunes to activate the iPhone. To arrange this they’ll need to contact Business Customer Services.

3. Existing O2 Pay & Go customers can use their current O2 Pay & Go SIM card or new customers can join O2 by getting a free Pay & Go iPhone SIM card from an O2 store. Then add the unlimited Web and Wi-Fi iPhone Bolt On (£10 a month). The only thing that does not work with this option is the Visual Voicemail.
