Windows 7 has been officially launched, but Microsoft never makes available official download links that allow retail customers to download setup installer or ISO image of Windows 7, despite digital downloads have been the sole distribution channel for many that purchases from online store or on MSDN or TechNet subscriptions.

Many mass general public who requires a Windows 7 installation DVD or ISO image has to rely on BT torrent to download Windows 7 ISO from MSDN or TechNet Subscriber Downloads, and it carries the risk of getting fake, incorrect, malicious or infected images instead.
Now the direct download links to the Windows 7 operating system purchased online have been leaked. The installation files of Windows 7 is hosted on the server on domain msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net owned by Digital River, one of the delivery partners for Vista and also the brain behind Windows Marketplace e-commerce store.
Unlike Windows Vista, each editions of Windows 7 has its own different and separate download links. The Windows 7 setup installer package comes in 3 parts, which is an executable that starts the extraction or unpacking and installation process, plus setup1.box and setup2.box. After extracting all content to a folder named ExpandedSetup, the installation files should be the same with what contains on a DVD.

VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Beta 2

I’m happy to announce that today we shipped the Beta 2 release of Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0.  MSDN subscribers can download Beta 2 immediately. 

We will be opening up Beta 2 for everyone to download starting this Wednesday.

VS 2010 and .NET Improvements

VS 2010 and .NET 4 bring a huge number of improvements and additions. They include big advances for ASP.NET web development, WPF and WinForms client development, SharePoint development, Silverlight development, data development, parallel computing development, and cloud computing development.  VS 2010 also delivers a ton of improvements in the core IDE, code editors, programming languages, and enterprise design, architect, and testing tools.

Firefox 3.7, now with Windows 7 jumplist support

Now that Windows 7 is just weeks away from hitting retail shelves, more and more applications are beginning to take advantage of the new shell integration features.

A while back, Google added jumplist support to Google Chrome. Just days ago, a build offering the same functionality finally appeared on Mozilla's Tryserver.

Yes, Firefox fans, you now have the opportunity to test jumplist support in Firefox, as long as you're o.k. with running a Minefield build. As you can see in the image above, the feature is fairly basic right now. In addition to the default Windows 7 "pinned" area, Firefox maintains a list of frequently visited site and allows you to open a new tab or window. I'd like to see a list of recent sites and private browsing added to the list.

You'll find the installer for Windows here. After about 24 hours with the tweaked build, I don't find it to be any less stable than the Minefield nightly. Tried the build out yourself? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Download KDE for Windows

The KDE on Windows team today announced the immediate availability of "Caizen", (a.k.a KDE 4.3.0) a new stable Release of KDE.

This release contains many bug fixes and some new applications. The binary packages could be installed with the installer by using the version "stable 4.3.0" (or "stable latest").

In case you are upgrading your KDE installation, deselect the skip basic settings checkbox on the first installer page and press next until you are guided to the release settings page, where you can choose the required version.

In this release major changes have been made to the infrastructure used by KDE on Windows: The msvc-packages have moved to the Visual Studio 9.0-compiler and packages for MinGW 4.4.0 have also been added. This will also mean that if the MinGW 4.4.0 packages show that they are stable enough, MinGW 3.4.5 packages might be discontinued in one of the coming releases.

The KDE on Windows Project is aimed at native porting of the KDE applications to MS Windows. Currently Windows 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista are supported.

The preferred way of installing KDE apps under Windows is the KDE-Installer.

KDE on Windows is not in the final state, so applications can be unsuitable for day to day use yet.

Windows Live Mail 2009 14.0.8089.0726 Update Detailed

The past week, Microsoft released a collection of updates for all the clients under the Windows Live Essentials brand umbrella but failed to provide details on what the refreshes brought to the table.

It took the Windows Live mail team a couple of days to make public the information related to the introduction of Windows Live Mail 2009 14.0.8089.0726. While end users had access and could download Build 14.0.8089.0726 of Windows Live Mail since August 19, 2009, only later the past week did Microsoft provide information on the update. Still, the Windows Live Mail team is an exception; additional teams, including the group building Windows Live Messenger, continue to keep mum even at this point in time.
Rodger Benson, lead program manager, Windows Live Mail, revealed that the Build 14.0.8089.0726 refresh was designed to solve some incompatibility issues with the email client that was stripped from the Windows client OS and moved into the Cloud. In addition, the latest Build of Windows Live Mail also introduces fixes for bugs reported to Microsoft by end users through feedback.
“Windows Live Mail can now properly import Outlook Express mail account settings that were transferred from a Windows XP to a new Vista or Windows 7 system using the Windows Easy Transfer wizard,” Benson explained. “Some users had problems launching Windows Live Mail and we have addressed this. In some cases, after you closed Windows Live Mail, the application would appear to close, but the wlmail.exe process would continue to run in the background. That process would prevent Mail from launching in the future. On Vista and Windows 7, Windows Live Mail wouldn’t connect properly to POP email servers using SSL. In particular, this affected some users of Yahoo! Mail.”
As I have told you since last week, applying the update to Windows Live Mail will take the version number of the email client all the way to Build 14.0.8089.0726. Microsoft has said nothing yet about distributing the updates automatically to all the components of the Windows Live Essentials but the version number of Windows Live Mail can be checked through the About Windows Live Mail dialog.

A new version of Office 2010 build which is said to be the first official beta (Beta 1) build of 2010 Microsoft Office Systems have leaked to Internet.
The latest Office 2010 Beta1 has the build version of 14.0.4302.1000, and is compiled or signed off on July 8, 2009. Although it’s still been labeled as Technical Preview, it may be the build version of Office 2010 that goes out to registrants of Office 2010 Technical Preview Program (TPP), and is widely to be considered as Office 2010 Beta 1. Interestingly, after installation, it shows the Office 2010 programs as Microsoft Office 2010 Mondo (Technical Preview).
Both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) setup installer of Microsoft Office 2010 Mondo version 14.0.4302.1000 is available for free download. The leaked Office 2010 is Office 2010 Ultimate edition.

Silverlight 3 Release To Web!

Released! Silverlight 3.0 at Microsoft Website

Silverlight version 3.0 has been released at Microsoft Website. It is an RTW version meaning Released to Web. The version number is Silverlight 3 RTW (3.0.40624.0).

Silverlight includes more than 50 new features. One of the most notable feature is offline mode which can be viewed out of the browser, 3D support, GPU acceleration and a lot more. Even with lot of huge features it is almost the same size as Sivlerlight 2.0.

Subsonic 3.0 Released!

SubSonic is A Super High-fidelity Batman Utility Belt that works up your Data Access (using Linq in 3.0), throws in some much-needed utility functions, and generally speeds along your dev cycle.

SubSonic 3.0 is the latest version of SubSonic and was released in June of 2009. Work on SubSonic 3.0 lasted close to a year, and revolved mostly around supporting Language-integrated Query, also known as LINQ.

The focus of SubSonic 3.0 is to provide tools, not guidance or an overall mindset/approach. There are a number of things in SubSonic that allow you to move faster while applying whatever patterning floats your boat. We're not as complete as NHibernate, but you'll work faster with less concept count. We're not as deep as Linq to SQL, but you can use our stuff on most databases.

Linq

SubSonic 3.0 supports Linq with a core Expression Parser that turns System.Linq.Expressions into SQL. In addition, our 2.0 Query Tool (now called SimpleQuery) can use Lambda expressions to simplify some tasks.

All of the templates we use build on top of our core parsers and query tools, and you can build on top of these quite easily.

Simple Query Tool

The Simple Query Tool works almost exactly as it did with SubSonic 2.x - as a fluent "SQL-style" query tool that allows you to query the database almost as if you're using SQL.

The additions to this tool include Expression support for Where's as well as a "ToList<>()" method that will execute a query and load an object for you.

Utilities

SubSonic also comes with a number of utility methods expressed as Extension Methods. This is SubSonic's Sugar Utility Library and has a number of things to save you time, including File IO, string methods, date math, number utilities, and Object parsing.
