Following the list of rumors and speculations about the Konami release of Metal Gear Solid 4 on the 12th of June 2008, the PlayStation Blog has been updated with a post clarifying the whole situation. First of all, you should all know that the US version of the game is rated M for Mature and comes in different colors and flavors: the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Standard Edition, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PlayStation 3 Hardware Bundle and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition Playstation 3 Hardware Bundle. This means four different products for the fourth in the series. And we've got all of them covered for you.
First, the edition most of the gamers will buy is the standard one – you can see the final, official boxart if you check out the first image below. The packaging art is specifically designed by Mr. Kojima and the team. For those who like to pre-order things, GameStop offers Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Standard Edition accompanied by an exclusive MGS4 Art Book (as long as supplies last). The price of the Standard Edition is $59.99.
The Limited Edition, which can be seen in the second picture below (never released before) will be available exclusively through Gamestop. This MGS4 edition contains everything offered by the Standard Edition as well as a collectible box with exclusive artwork by illustrator Yoji Shinkawa, an additional Blu-ray disc containing two unique and never-before-seen Metal Gear Solid "Making of…" documentaries, and the MGS4 Soundtrack. Also, the MGS4 Art Book is offered under the same conditions as stated previously. The price of the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition is $84.99 USD.
The exclusive PS3 MGS4 bundle (the third picture below) comes with a never seen before white box (typically, the PS3 comes with a black box, but I'm sure you knew that already) and contains an 80GB console, the DualShock 3 controller and the MGS4 Standard Edition. However, the price of this product is not known at the moment.
The cherry on the top and a definite must-have for the fans is represented by the Limited Edition MGS4 PS3 bundle and it promises to come with a really good looking box. As you may figure, the image of the box was not yet made available, but there seems to be a real possibility for it to come with a "gunmetal grey" PlayStation 3 (the last picture below), like the one that's being sold in Japan. No further information regarding the pricing has been published, but Sony declared that it will be a "VERY, VERY Limited Edition bundle".
